Unleashing Innovation: The Fusion of SPEAR Missiles and the KF-21 Boramae Jet

Following an accord established in June 2023 between MBDA and Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI), a significant achievement was realized on October 20th, 2025, with the ratification of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed for the incorporation of the SPEAR Air-to-Ground missile with the KF-21 Boramae jet fighter.

Unveiled during Seoul ADEX 2025, this MoU signifies a strengthened alliance between MBDA and KAI, concentrating on advancing the KF-21’s precision strike capabilities by merging KAI’s innovative fighter technology with MBDA’s proficiency in advanced weapon systems.

The Korean KF-21 fighter aircraft, already fitted with the METEOR Air-to-Air missile, is set to obtain improved air-to-ground capabilities with the incorporation of the SPEAR. This latest innovation from MBDA is meticulously crafted to provide precise outcomes with minimal collateral damage, enhanced reliability for systems/weapons, and a significant payload for prolonged missions. Driven by a turbojet engine and equipped with a precision effects warhead alongside a sophisticated multi-sensor seeker, the SPEAR missile excels at targeting a wide array of objectives beyond the horizon, both on land and at sea.

Following the June 2023 accord, this MoU further solidifies the robust partnership between both entities, who have demonstrated commitment and shared goals to investigate new opportunities for the integration of supplementary MBDA munitions onto KAI platforms.
