Iraq Strengthens Military Might with the Addition of 12 Advanced Airbus H225M Helicopters

Airbus Helicopters has finalized a contract for 12 H225M multi-purpose helicopters from the Republic of Iraq. The arrangement was ratified in Baghdad by Iraq’s Minister of Defence, Mr. Thabet al-Abbassi, alongside French Ambassador Patrick Durel. These helicopters will be deployed by the Iraqi Army Aviation Command, replacing outdated Mi-17s for an extended variety of operations: counter-terrorism, specialized missions, tactical personnel transport, assault, ground fire support, MEDEVAC, and combat search-and-rescue. Deliveries are anticipated to begin in 2025. Iraq currently operates a fleet of Airbus helicopters, including models from the H125, H135, and H145 series.

“We are exceptionally excited to welcome a new member to the H225M line,” expressed Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters. “The H225M is a proven platform utilized worldwide by a multitude of operators, including the French Air Force, for combat search-and-rescue operations. It has showcased its robustness and saved countless lives since its inception,” he added. “The H225M stands out in range, payload capacity, and mission systems. It has been designed to undertake challenging missions in the most arduous environments. We look forward to the H225M bolstering Iraq’s defense and sovereignty.”

The H225M has proven its reliability and durability in combat situations and crisis zones. Benefiting from Airbus’ continuous improvement programs, the H225M is now enhanced with cutting-edge avionics, an upgraded main gearbox, aerial communication technologies, and can be equipped with the HForce armament system. The maximum take-off weight has been increased by 160 kg, reaching a total of 11,160 kg.

There are over 350 H225s and H225Ms in operation worldwide, amassing more than 880,000 flight hours. Military clientele includes France, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Mexico, Kuwait, Brazil, and Hungary.
