Revving Up Japan’s Air Power: The Beechcraft T-6 Texan II Transforms Pilot Training for the Self-Defense Force

Textron Aviation Defense LLC, a division of Textron Inc., has proclaimed today, in partnership with the Kanematsu Group, that the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II Integrated Training System (ITS) has been selected to enhance pilot instruction for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF). This determination will allow Japan to join 14 other nations that have chosen the T-6 Texan II, contributing to a global distribution of over 1,000 T-6 aircraft.

The Beechcraft T-6 Texan II is designed and manufactured by Textron Aviation Defense LLC, a fully owned subsidiary of Textron Aviation Inc.

“We take immense pride in delivering the Japan Air Self-Defense Force with a dependable and exceptionally skilled Integrated Training System that will meet their training demands for years ahead,” remarked Travis Tyler, President and CEO, Textron Aviation Defense LLC. “This choice reinforces the capability of our T-6 Texan II Integrated Training System in preparing a proficient, elite, and highly skilled JASDF that can address the challenges of the 21st century.”

The T-6 Texan II was selected after a thorough and competitive evaluation of training alternatives offered by various bidders. The finalization of the contract is expected in 2025.

The JASDF is advancing its training procedures with a holistic strategy that encompasses T-6 Texan II trainer aircraft, a comprehensive Ground Based Training System, instruction for pilot trainers and aircraft technicians, alongside enduring logistic and support frameworks. The Beechcraft T-6 Texan II will replace the Fuji/Subaru T-7 aircraft which has functioned as the JASDF’s primary trainer for several years.
