Lockheed Martin and SMU Join Forces to Revolutionize the Philippines’ Multi-Role Fighter Program

Lockheed Martin is expanding its industrial partnership offerings for the Philippines as part of its F-16 Block 70 proposal for the nation’s Multi Role Fighter program. The enhanced proposal includes a strategic collaboration with Southern Methodist University (SMU) to advance digital innovation, intellectual property generation, and workforce education in conjunction with Philippine universities and industries.

The partnership will establish a comprehensive platform for technological and knowledge sharing, incorporating funding for business incubation, governmental programs, and educational initiatives. A state-of-the-art research facility and training center will be established, equipping Filipino professionals to create groundbreaking solutions and prototypes applicable across various sectors.

“We are committed to investing in the development of new skills and intellectual properties in close collaboration with leading universities and organizations in the Philippines,” expressed Jess Koloini, Lockheed Martin F-16 Business Development. “This partnership will not only enhance the country’s Self-Reliant Defense Posture (SRDP) but also make a substantial impact on the Filipino workforce, promoting economic growth and prosperity.”

This alliance will leverage the capabilities of SMU’s Center for Digital and Human-Augmented Manufacturing (CDHAM) and Deason Innovation Gym (DIG) to significantly enhance the Philippines’ research and development capabilities in digital modeling, simulations, virtual and augmented reality, robotics, automation, and Artificial Intelligence.

Key elements of the collaboration include:

  • Access to cutting-edge innovation tools and resources available at SMU, enabling Filipino professionals to develop pioneering solutions and prototypes.
  • Funding for business incubation, government initiatives, and educational programs.
  • Establishment of a state-of-the-art research lab and training environment.
