Lockheed Martin Unveils Game-Changing Infrared Tech for F-22 Raptor Revamp
Lockheed Martin has obtained a $270 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to integrate an enhanced suite of next-generation infrared defensive sensors on the F-22 Raptor.
The F-22 is set to feature a newly designed, decentralized collection of integrated TacIRST sensors developed by Lockheed Martin to boost aircraft resilience and operational efficiency, known as the Infrared Defensive System (IRDS). In addition to overseeing the IRDS integration on the F-22, the company will also support its deployment across various platforms.
“We understand the importance of cutting-edge and flexible infrared systems like the IRDS that will strengthen pilots’ missions, making them more robust and effective against current and future threats,” commented Hank Tucker, vice president of Mission Systems at Lockheed Martin. “We’re committed to supporting the Air Force through continuous advancement of capabilities to counter and neutralize evolving dangers.”
Justin Taylor, vice president of the F-22 program at Lockheed Martin stated: “Lockheed Martin is privileged to continue partnering with the Air Force on vital modernization efforts for the Raptor, leveraging our expertise in 5th Generation aircraft and air superiority technologies to integrate solutions that ensure sustained U.S. air dominance both now and in the future.”
