Fincantieri Unveils the Majestic LPD ‘Al-Fulk’ for Qatar
Fincantieri has formally transferred the amphibious craft “Al Fulk” (Landing Platform Dock – LPD) to the Defence Ministry of Qatar.
The inauguration occurred today at the Muggiano shipyard (La Spezia) and signifies the culmination of a pivotal naval initiative for the Qatari Navy, which also encompassed the provision of four “Al Zubarah-class” corvettes and two “Musherib-class” Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs).
The occasion was graced by various dignitaries, including the Commander of the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces, Staff Major General Abdulla Bin Hassan Al Sulaiti, and the Director of the Italian Navy Military Personnel Directorate, Vice Admiral Andrea Gueglio, who were welcomed by Fincantieri’s Chief Executive Officer and General Manager, Pierroberto Folgiero, alongside the General Manager of the Naval Vessels Division, Dario Deste.
“Al Fulk”, manufactured at the Group’s facilities in Palermo and Muggiano, is constructed in accordance with RINAMIL standards, which dictate the classification of naval ships, ensuring outstanding capabilities in air, maritime, and terrestrial operations. Its adaptable design permits the vessel to perform a variety of tasks, ranging from humanitarian assistance to defense missions and support for ground forces.
The craft measures around 143 meters in length and 21.5 meters in width, and it can house up to 550 personnel aboard. It features a sizeable flight deck suitable for NH90 helicopters, a generous garage with two vehicle ramps, and a floodable internal dock capable of deploying landing crafts.
