“Revolutionizing USV Development: The SAS Technology and Sigmund Naval Alliance in the Eastern Mediterranean”
Spirit Aeronautical Systems S.A. (SAS Technology) from Greece and Sigmund Naval & Marine Ltd from the United Kingdom revealed the signing of an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding during the DSEI exhibition, representing a significant advancement in defence and maritime innovation for the Eastern Mediterranean.
DSEI UK 2025, London – September 12, 2025 SAS Technology is an eminent Greek producer of dual-purpose advanced unmanned systems, celebrated for the SARISA II, the globe’s first UCAV that successfully launched the laser-guided missile (THALES FZ275) with sub-meter accuracy.
Sigmund Naval & Marine Ltd is a prestigious British naval design firm with award-winning skills in USVs, patrol vessels, and warships, having supplied cutting-edge unmanned crafts ranging from 11 to 60 metres to clients worldwide.
According to the agreement, both firms will collaborate exclusively on the design, manufacturing, and deployment of Unmanned Surface Vehicles in Greece and Cyprus. Domestic production will enhance Greece’s industrial foundation, boost technological independence, and support regional strategic autonomy. The applications of the vessels encompass defence and coastal surveillance, intelligence gathering, mine counter-measures, search and rescue, and environmental monitoring — directly addressing the operational requirements of Greece, Cyprus, and the broader East Mediterranean.
At the core of the partnership is the TriRaptor 15m USV, a next-generation maritime asset that transforms force projection and coastal security. Featuring a stealth design, 70-knot maximum speed, 720-nautical-mile endurance, and modular payloads, it is adaptable for ISR, anti-submarine operations, patrol, and logistics missions.
For Greece, Cyprus, and the broader East Mediterranean, the introduction of such platforms represents not only a technological advancement but also a strategic enhancer — securing energy corridors, bolstering maritime sovereignty, and reinforcing stability in one of the world’s most contested naval regions.
On the partnership, Mike Spiridakos, CEO of SAS Technology, remarked: “This collaboration emphasizes our dedication to providing agile and versatile automation solutions for vital safety challenges. It is an honor to incorporate Sigmund’s world-class expertise into SAS’s capabilities. Domestic production of advanced USVs bolsters resilience, fosters industrial collaboration, and enhances regional maritime security.”
Peter Symonds de Montfort, CEO of Sigmund Naval & Marine Ltd, further stated: “Sigmund’s design aspirations combined with SAS’s research & development excellence will produce a new class of unmanned vessels tailored to the strategic demands of Greece, Cyprus, and the East Mediterranean. Together, we are establishing a new standard in maritime innovation.”
