A400M Showcases Its Mastery on Sandy Surfaces
Airbus Defence and Space has achieved a significant milestone by demonstrating the A400M new generation airlifter capabilities on a sand runway. This test marks the final assessment needed for certification across three types of unprepared surfaces. Conducted over three weeks in August at a specially constructed airstrip in Woodbridge, UK, the tests utilized the development aircraft MSN2. The concluding week will focus on operations at progressively higher weights.
The A400M showcased outstanding performance in taxiing maneuvers, including U-turns, as well as during take-off and landing on the 1,600m (5,250ft) strip. These successful trials come after previous achievements on gravel surfaces in Ablitas, Spain, and grass runways in Écury, France. The successful operations highlight the adaptability and reliability of the A400M in varied conditions.
