Aero Asahi Corporation (Aero Asahi), a prominent general aviation service provider in Japan, is set to commence operations with an AW169 light intermediate twin-engine helicopter featuring a specialized Agusta configuration. Aero Asahi proudly becomes the inaugural Japanese operator to utilize an exclusive VIP Leonardo helicopter within Japan under the respected Agusta brand.

Aero Asahi has gained extensive knowledge of the remarkable attributes and functionalities of the contemporary AW169 model by facilitating a dedicated demo tour in Japan during 2023. The AW169 delivers exceptional performance and advanced flight and navigation features due to its advanced avionics and mission systems, along with unparalleled comfort and sustainability through a bespoke interior and APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) mode, which energizes all main cabin and cockpit systems while on the ground with rotors halted. Furthermore, it adheres to the latest generation of safety standards. The Agusta brand ideally enhances these qualities for VIP/corporate transportation duties, combining best-in-class performance, high comfort, and extensive customization options, along with cutting-edge technologies that have been recognized globally in Leonardo’s executive transport-configured helicopters for decades.

Aero Asahi’s AW169 is anticipated to be delivered in spring 2025 and will include an array of specialized equipment featuring advanced soundproofing solutions, exclusive VIP seating for up to eight passengers, a Smart Cabin Management System with air conditioning control, and a state-of-the-art entertainment system. The agreement also encompasses the exclusive and personalized Agusta For You service and maintenance package.

The launch of the AW169 has notably broadened Leonardo’s footprint across various markets, including passenger transportation. This move further solidifies the company’s leadership in the multi-engine VIP market – with over 900 helicopters of diverse models and a value share exceeding 40% over the past decade – thereby offering operators an additional option that sits perfectly between the popular AW109 series and the best-selling AW139 models.

Currently, more than 320 AW169s are on order, with approximately 170 units already delivered from the Vergiate final assembly line (Italy) to operators in over 30 nations. The global fleet has amassed over 170,000 flight hours across diverse operations and conditions.

Approximately 160 helicopters of various types, including the AW169, are currently operational in Japan, deployed for a wide array of missions such as law enforcement, emergency medical services, search and rescue, firefighting, disaster relief, VIP/corporate transport, electronic news gathering, and maritime utility.
