Airbus Greenlights Innovative Refueling System for A400M Cargo Tanks

Airbus Achieves Milestone in A400M Refueling Certification

Airbus has successfully finalized the certification flight tests for the A400M Cargo Hold Tanks (CHT) refueling unit, marking a significant advancement towards full certification for air-to-air refueling operations. This achievement demonstrates Airbus’s dedication to enhancing the capabilities of military transport aircraft.

The testing campaign, conducted in collaboration with the Spanish Air Force Test Centre (CLAEX), involved a total of nine flights. During these flights, an impressive 90 tonnes of fuel were dispensed to both Spanish Air Force F-18 fighters and another A400M prototype, simulating a representative heavy aircraft receiver.

Through this test campaign, Airbus focused on the development and certification of the Cargo Hold Tanks, integrating the latest Fuel Quantity Management System software, which is set to be certified in 2019. Additionally, enhancements were made to the night refueling vision system, along with preliminary testing of helicopter air-to-air refueling capabilities.

These advancements underscore Airbus’s commitment to delivering top-tier aerial refueling solutions, ensuring that the A400M remains a versatile asset for modern military operations.
