Airbus Helicopters Launches Inaugural Live-Fire Tests for Innovative HForce System
Marignane, 13 June 2016 – Airbus Helicopters has successfully completed the initial phase of firing tests for HForce, an advanced weapon system tailored for the company’s commercial helicopter fleet. This innovative system integrates a central core unit, Thales’ Scorpion monocular helmet-mounted sight display (HMSD), an electro-optical system (EOS) from Wescam, alongside gunner armament weapon grips and weapon pods. Over the past five months, rigorous testing has been underway.
From May 25th to June 3rd, an extensive firing campaign featuring the HForce-equipped H225M took place at a dedicated range in Belgium. This initiative allowed Airbus Helicopters to showcase the efficacy of HForce with various ballistic weapons, including 12.7 mm guns, 70 mm rockets, and 20 mm cannons.
“Achieving this significant milestone on schedule highlights that HForce surpasses specifications, providing substantial value in target tracking and acquisition for both day and night operations, thanks to the combined capabilities of EOS and HMSD,” stated Jean-Luc André, HForce Program Manager.
Initiated two years ago, HForce represents a progressive, cost-effective, plug-and-play weapon management system that can be easily integrated into any military variant of Airbus Helicopters’ commercial lineup, including the H125M, H145M, and H225M. Designed to cater to the specific needs of defense agencies, HForce stands out as a versatile solution for modern military operations.
