“Skyward Bound: FAA Grants Certification to Airbus Helicopters H160”

Airbus Helicopters has attained certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the H160 rotorcraft, signifying a pivotal milestone in the aircraft’s progression and positioning it for launch into the U.S. marketplace.

“We are delighted to obtain FAA certification for the H160, which is a testament to years of dedicated effort and commitment from our teams to provide this versatile helicopter to clients in North America who have already placed their faith in the H160,” stated Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters. “This aircraft boasts the highest degree of innovation, and we are assured that its advanced functionalities, coupled with our robust customer support network, will cement its status as the preferred selection for clientele in the U.S.”

The H160 is a groundbreaking medium-class rotorcraft that establishes a new standard in safety, comfort, and environmental efficiency. It encompasses state-of-the-art technologies, including noise-mitigating Blue Edge rotor blades, a tilted Fenestron tail rotor for enhanced useful load, and Airbus Helicopters’ Helionix avionics suite designed to minimize pilot workload.

The H160 previously secured certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in July 2020 and has proven to be a favored option for customers worldwide. Airbus Helicopters has received orders exceeding 100 H160 units from clients globally, with more than a dozen coming from U.S. purchasers. The H160 has commenced operations in Japan, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, and Europe, amassing over 1,700 flight hours.

The H160 is a multifunctional helicopter perfectly suited for executing a wide range of missions, including offshore transport for the energy sector, business and private aviation, emergency medical services, commercial passenger transit, and public services such as Search and Rescue and law enforcement. With its remarkable range, speed, and efficiency, the H160 delivers unparalleled performance and adaptability to operators.

Plans have been in motion for several years to guarantee a seamless entry into service for the H160, including the previously announced establishment of North America’s inaugural H160 level D full flight simulator (FFS). This FFS is projected to be operational by the second half of 2025 and will be situated at the Helisim Simulation Center within the Airbus Helicopters, Inc. facility in Grand Prairie, Texas.
