Airbus Unveils Cutting-Edge SmartForce Solutions Tailored for Defense Forces
Airbus Unveils New Digital Support Services for Military Customers
Airbus has rolled out seven innovative products under its digital support services initiative, SmartForce. This expansion empowers military clients to choose tailored services that align with their specific fleet and aircraft needs, enhancing overall availability and mission readiness while alleviating maintenance challenges.
Among the new offerings, three are specifically designed for military aircraft, two for military helicopters, and two services applicable to both categories. The introduction of these digital solutions responds to the increasing demand for big data analytics in military operations.
The new services encompass a spectrum of functionalities, from long-term maintenance scheduling to predictive maintenance and the automation of administrative tasks tied to aircraft support. This broad utility has garnered significant interest from clients and industry stakeholders, including the French Procurement Agency (DGA – Direction Générale de l’Armement). Through the Optaforce technology development program, the DGA is collaborating with Airbus and the start-up COSLING to create a robust tool for managing mixed fixed and rotary-wing fleets and long-term maintenance schedules.
Matthieu Louvot, Executive Vice President of Customer Support & Services at Airbus Helicopters, emphasized, “With SmartForce, our military customers gain access to the same data-driven solutions currently utilized by nearly 700 civil helicopters. This highlights the critical role of data analytics in facilitating efficient and safe maintenance planning and operations.”
Stephan Miegel, Head of Airbus Military Aircraft Services, stated, “We provide service support for over 1,600 fixed-wing military aircraft. Our SmartForce offering allows clients to harness the advantages of digitalization, enhancing smart fleet management and maintenance efficiency.”
SmartForce services for military aircraft and helicopters notably improve troubleshooting, optimize maintenance efforts, predict necessary maintenance actions, and intelligently plan for material demand. To address military security requirements, SmartForce implements comprehensive security protocols, including geographic isolation, the employment of accredited personnel, and oversight by national cybersecurity authorities.
