Airbus Secures Deal for 38 Eurofighter Jets with German Forces
Airbus has officially secured a contract for the delivery of 38 new Eurofighter aircraft to the German Air Force, solidifying Germany’s position as the leading nation in Europe’s largest defense initiative. This significant order, known by its project name Quadriga, consists of 30 single-seat and 8 twin-seat Eurofighters. Additionally, three aircraft will serve as Instrumented Test Aircraft, equipped with advanced testing installations to further enhance the Eurofighter program.
According to Dirk Hoke, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, “The new Tranche 4 Eurofighter represents the pinnacle of modern European combat aircraft, boasting a service life extending well beyond 2060. Its advanced technical capabilities will ensure seamless integration into the European Future Combat Air System (FCAS).”
This renewed commitment from Germany guarantees production activities until 2030 and arrives at a crucial juncture for the program. Anticipated Eurofighter orders from Spain, aimed at replacing aging F-18 aircraft, and upcoming procurement decisions from Switzerland and Finland are expected in 2021.
The Eurofighter variant proposed to Switzerland is aligned with the German Quadriga configuration, featuring state-of-the-art electronic radar, future-ready hardware and software, and comprehensive multi-role capabilities for engaging both air and ground threats.
Eurofighter stands as Europe’s largest defense program, involving collaboration among the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, and Germany. Beyond its technological advancements, the program is vital for securing over 100,000 jobs across Europe.
