Aviastar-SP Set to Launch Production of 10 Advanced Il-78M-90A Tankers for Defense Ministry in 2024
The Aviastar-SP plant in Ulyanovsk, part of the transport aviation division of PJSC UAC under the Rostec State Corporation, is set to fulfill a significant contract to produce 10 Il-78M-90A tanker aircraft for the Russian Ministry of Defense.
This contract was officially signed during a visit from Deputy Defense Minister Alexei Krivoruchko to the facility. On behalf of UAC, the agreement was finalized by Sergei Yarkovoy, First Deputy General Director of PJSC UAC, and Managing Director of PJSC Il.
These state-of-the-art tankers are derived from the Il-76MD-90A military transport aircraft and are equipped with four advanced PS-90A-76 engines. The aircraft features a completely upgraded flight and navigation complex and includes a modern “glass cockpit,” designed to enhance operational efficiency and improve flight safety.
The versatility of the Il-78M-90A allows for simultaneous refueling of two front-line aircraft, with additional capabilities to refuel long-range and special aircraft from its tail unit. Furthermore, while on the ground, the Il-78M-90A can refuel up to four aircraft at once. This tanker is also adaptable for conversion into a cargo plane when necessary, making it an essential asset for efficient military logistics.
