Boeing Unveils Game-Changing CH-47F Block II Chinook for U.S. Army

To bolster ongoing U.S. Army modernization initiatives, Boeing [NYSE: BA] has successfully delivered the inaugural CH-47F Block II Chinook. This aircraft is part of an anticipated total of 465 in the Army’s arsenal that will be upgraded to the latest Block II variant.

“The CH-47F Block II offers capability enhancements that empower the U.S. Army to transport heavier loads, operate over greater distances, and maintain their helicopters more effectively than ever before,” stated Heather McBryan, vice president and program manager for Cargo Programs. “This modernization initiative positions the battle-proven Chinook to fulfill a vital role in multi-domain operations in the future.”

Featuring an upgraded drivetrain, a strengthened airframe, and an enhanced fuel system, the CH-47F Block II supports an extra 4,000 pounds of maximum gross weight and broadens the mission radius for almost all payloads. Beyond the enhancements in capability, the aircraft’s architecture facilitates future technological advancements.

“As the U.S. Army’s Heavy Lift solution for the future, the CH-47F Block II delivers amplified capabilities while continuously meeting the Army’s demand for strategic responsiveness across the entire spectrum of military operations,” remarked Viva Kelly, acting project manager for U.S. Army Cargo Helicopters.

Moreover, the company’s Block II initiative enhances aircraft sustainment. The elevated reliability of the new rotor system reduces unexpected maintenance needs, while the streamlined fuel system enhances sustainment efficiency, thus lowering maintenance costs and burdens.
