“BAE Systems Partners with Kongsberg Defence to Revolutionize Stealth Technology in Norway”
BAE Systems has secured a £3 million contract to deliver essential technology for Kongsberg’s Joint Strike Missile system on the fifth-generation F-35 aircraft.
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace is a globally recognized leader in the supply of defense solutions and systems, alongside advanced composites, engineering products, and maintenance services for aircraft.
Kongsberg’s Joint Strike Missile is the sole long-range sea and land target missile that can be internally housed in the F-35 aircraft.
This new contract will enable BAE Systems to deliver expertise in radar-absorbing materials, sensor development, and technology integration to the highly sophisticated Joint Strike Missile system, which is currently being embraced by Norway and Japan.
An advanced missile system is vital in enhancing the overall capabilities of the aircraft, guaranteeing that the F-35 maintains its stealth characteristics.
Bob Davidson, General Manager of BAE Systems Advanced Technology Solutions, remarked: “BAE Systems has maintained a long-standing partnership with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace for the past 15 years, supporting its essential control needs on the Naval Strike Missile and Joint Strike Missile programs.”
“This contract award builds on our collaboration and our dedication to deliver high-quality products and services. We are excited to offer a significant advantage to Kongsberg’s clientele globally.”
“It also underscores our ongoing investment in our Towcester facility where the work will be performed, preserving highly skilled positions in Engineering, Project Management, and more for at least the next year, with potential for further expansion as sales of the Joint Strike Missile rise.”
Øyvind Kolset, EVP Missiles at Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace stated: “BAE Systems is a crucial partner for KDA, providing essential technology in our missiles. I would like to commend the excellent cooperation and professionalism that BAE Systems has exhibited through our long-term relationship.”
Kongsberg has recently placed an order with BAE Systems in Australia to obtain an additional 180 Passive Radio Frequency Sensors (PRS), enhancing the capacity of its Joint Strike Missile.
This finalizes the first full rate production order for 200 PRS sensors and is the culmination of effective operations between the two companies over the last five years.
