Rheinmetall Boosts Ukraine’s Defense with 40 More Marder Infantry Fighting Vehicles!
The German administration has engaged Rheinmetall to furnish 40 additional Marder infantry combat vehicles to Ukraine. Placed in August 2023, the contract is valued at a significant double-digit million-euro figure. Rheinmetall is advancing with modifications to refurbish these older units and guarantee that the latest batch of Marder IFVs can be delivered as per agreement starting in 2023.
This contract elevates the total count of Marder vehicles to be supplied by Rheinmetall to Ukraine to eighty. On 21 March 2023, the company previously dispatched the initial twenty infantry combat vehicles requested by the German government for Ukraine. Additionally, another twenty Rheinmetall IFVs were requested in June 2023. These are presently undergoing refurbishment and delivery.
The units being provided are refurbished Marder 1A3 systems that were previously utilized by the Bundeswehr. As early as spring 2022, Rheinmetall commenced the restoration of the infantry combat vehicles to achieve a state of immediate operational readiness at its own expense.
Operations are already in progress at Rheinmetall’s facilities in Kassel and Unterlüß. The Group can produce up to ten infantry combat vehicles each month.
Originally developed for the Bundeswehr and still deployed by the German Armed Forces, the Marder infantry fighting vehicle ranks among the most dependable weapon systems of its type globally. Continuously modernized, the vehicle has received ongoing combat enhancements throughout its service history.
