Kongsberg Secures Extended Contract for F-16 Enhancement Project

The maintenance of the aircraft will occur at KAMS’ facilities located in Kjeller, close to Oslo, ensuring that F-16 proficiency is preserved in Norway for the coming years. The aircraft will be restored to operational status and subsequently serviced so they are prepared for deployment again. KAMS boasts 40 years of expertise in sustaining, repairing, and upgrading Norway’s F-16 fleet.

“This contract extension reaffirms our role as a premier provider of maintenance services for the Armed Forces and their allies, safeguarding critical aeronautical jobs for the foreseeable future. It highlights the significance of the strategic partnership we’ve developed with the Norwegian Armed Forces for the upkeep of aircraft, engines, and related systems and components. We will persist in our expansion and foster even more aeronautical employment opportunities moving forward,” states Atle Wøllo, President of KAMS.

The Norwegian Defence Material Agency has finalized an agreement with Draken International for the sale of up to 12 former Norwegian F-16s and is in the process of completing the transfer of another 32 aircraft to Romania. Subject to official sanction from Norwegian and American authorities, the initial aircraft are anticipated to be delivered to Draken this year, with Romania’s expected receipt during 2023.

“Our fighter aircraft are recognized as some of the best-maintained globally, with ongoing upkeep and enhancements provided by KAMS being integral to this standard. I am therefore assured that our aircraft will serve Draken and Romania effectively for many years ahead. Additionally, this contract assists in preserving Norway’s industrial proficiency in fighter aircraft maintenance,” remarks Magnus Hansvold, Director for Material Disposal at the Norwegian Defence Material Agency.
