Milestone Achieved: Bell H-1 Fleet Tops 500,000 Flight Hours

The existing H-1 fleet featuring AH-1Z Vipers and UH-1Y Venoms has achieved a significant aviation milestone by surpassing the 500,000-flight hour benchmark. Nearly 400 AH-1Z and UH-1Y helicopters, crafted by Bell Textron Inc., a Textron Inc (NYSE:TXT) enterprise, and utilized by the U.S. Marine Corps along with their partners, collectively reached this outstanding achievement.

“The H-1 remains the quintessential example of an aircraft family that can accomplish more with fewer resources and provide unparalleled interoperability and expeditionary agility,” stated Mike Deslatte, Bell H-1 vice president and program director. “We are exhilarated to have reached this remarkable milestone and eager for the future of both the Viper and the Venom as they continue to expand in numbers and capabilities globally.”

The H-1 Viper and Venom offer exceptional adaptability to the fleet. Both models showcased integration with advanced armaments and datalink technologies.

“We take pride that the initial 500,000 flight hours of the UH-1Y and AH-1Z involved consistent deployments to challenging deserts, various naval platforms, and icy environments while supporting U.S. and allied service members on land and at sea,” remarked Nate Green, Bell H-1 program manager. “With the Viper and Venom sharing 85 percent commonality of components, a significant advantage of this initiative is that a singular readiness enhancement or capability upgrade can often benefit both types of aircraft.”

Bell reinforces the future of H-1s through its involvement in the Marine Corps Structural Improvement Electrical Power Upgrade (SIEPU) initiative. Structural and electrical enhancements optimize the aircraft to bolster mission capabilities, ensure aircrew safety, and enhance interoperability. Bell is currently focused on augmenting the electrical power capacity of the platform, enabling the airframe to support additional capability integrations for years to come.

“This milestone underscores the vital missions our customers have accomplished with the H-1 during this period. A big congratulations to the U.S. Marine Corps and their partners on this fantastic milestone. Bell is honored to be your collaborator on this platform,” Deslatte added.

Bell delivers a variety of extensive services to H-1 squadrons, including spare parts, maintenance, training, on-site field representatives, and data analytics, ensuring support for global operations.
