Boeing Celebrates Milestone with Delivery of 150th P-8 Maritime Reconnaissance Aircraft
The latest Boeing P-8 maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft soared above Puget Sound, achieving a significant milestone with a total of 150 P-8s delivered. The 150th versatile P-8 will be utilized by the Air Test and Evaluation Squadron (VX) One, stationed at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland.
“Currently, there are 150 P-8s globally, providing assurance and an unparalleled capability to our international clients,” stated Stu Voboril, vice president and program manager for the P-8 Programs. “Our commitment has always been, and will remain, on supplying the paramount maritime patrol aircraft worldwide.”
With more than 450,000 incident-free flight hours, the worldwide P-8 fleet comprises 112 units delivered to the U.S. Navy, 12 to Australia, 12 to India, nine to the United Kingdom, and five to Norway. These aircraft are engineered for anti-submarine combat; anti-surface operations; intelligence gathering, surveillance, and reconnaissance; as well as search and rescue missions.
The current 150 P-8s in operation do not encompass six test units provided to the U.S. Navy during the program’s early phases. Boeing utilized these aircraft for testing during development to evaluate capabilities and performance. As advancements in system enhancements and cutting-edge technology persist, the test aircraft play an essential role in guaranteeing Boeing delivers state-of-the-art features to global P-8 clientele.
