CAE Unveils Groundbreaking VTOL Desktop Simulator for Drones
CAE is set to unveil an innovative Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) desktop simulator, specifically designed around the company’s Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Mission Trainer at the forthcoming Dubai Airshow from 14-18 November 2021, alongside a plethora of other digital advancements.
The anticipated growth in advanced air mobility (AAM) and UAS operations over the next decade is projected to generate a tremendous demand for pilots, with estimates suggesting that nearly 60,000 pilots may be required by 2028. Nevertheless, training solutions tailored exclusively for VTOL operations are presently scarce.
“CAE’s UAS Mission Trainer, optimized for VTOL capabilities, leverages decades of training acumen we possess with remotely piloted units to assist in pilot instruction. Expertly trained VTOL pilots will facilitate the safe expansion of advanced air mobility and unmanned operations across global markets,” asserted Thibaut TRANCART, Vice President and Managing Director, Europe and Middle East, CAE.
At its booth, CAE will also present a variety of defense training solutions, including the CAE Trax Academy, a thorough pilot training continuum that ensures quicker, superior, and more efficient pilot throughput. Notably, CAE will showcase its Sprint virtual reality (VR) trainer, which is a component of the Trax Academy and features a VR headset, haptic feedback, and tactile flight controls to provide an engaging and authentic virtual environment. Additionally, CAE will highlight its Virtual Maintenance Trainer, which amalgamates theoretical knowledge with hands-on skills, providing maintenance technicians with a high-fidelity immersive simulation of aircraft systems through virtual reality.

TRANCART elaborated: “By integrating immersive digital training technologies, such as virtual reality, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence into the early phases of a training curriculum, operators can attain expedited and more efficient trainee throughput while enhancing practical experience. We are thrilled to showcase how our suite of products and services can cost-effectively prepare aircrews for combat scenarios and ensure elevated levels of mission readiness.”
Recently, CAE acquired L3Harris’ Military Training division for US$1.05 billion, encompassing Link and Doss Aviation, establishing itself as the world’s premier platform-agnostic training, simulation, and operational support provider.
CAE has maintained a long-standing partnership with defense forces and governments across the Middle East. The organization has been operational in the region since the early 1980s, with its regional headquarters situated in Abu Dhabi. CAE collaborates closely with the UAE Air Force, UAE Navy, and UAE Joint Aviation Command (JAC).
TRANCART concluded: “As a strategic ally in the UAE and other governments in the region, CAE offers global expertise and innovation to build local capabilities and align with the priorities of our clientele in the Middle East.”
