Collins Aerospace Unveils Cutting-Edge Engineering and Global Operations Hubs in India to Propel R&D and Manufacturing Innovations
As a key component of a substantial investment aimed at enhancing its engineering, digital technologies, and manufacturing activities in India, Collins Aerospace, a division of Raytheon Technologies Corp., has formally launched its new Global Engineering and Technology Center (GETC) along with Collins India Operations Center in Bengaluru. These facilities are integral to a long-range growth strategy for Raytheon Technologies, both in India and internationally, to maximize synergy and innovation, offering advanced solutions for clients while fostering additional STEM-centric opportunities in the region.
“We have been dedicated to the aerospace sector in India for 25 years, actively promoting essential innovations, research and development, and STEM pathways within the local ecosystem for the foreseeable future,” remarked Steve Timm, president of Collins Aerospace, during the inauguration events that took place this week. “At Collins, we are poised to invest over $200 million in engineering and manufacturing capabilities while recruiting an additional 2,000 highly skilled professionals within the Indian aerospace and defense sphere over the next five years. India plays a pivotal role in the global expansion and investment strategy of all Raytheon Technologies’ enterprises, and the advanced infrastructure combined with a talented workforce will enhance the country’s role as a worldwide leader in aerospace and defense.”
Approximately 3,000 engineers from three other Collins Aerospace establishments in Bengaluru, in addition to roughly 600 staff from various Raytheon Technologies’ subsidiaries, will be relocating to the expansive 413,000 square-foot GETC at Northgate Tech Park, fostering collaboration across the company’s divisions. Plans to broaden its presence on the 3-acre site next year with new capabilities are also in motion. Pratt & Whitney’s United Technologies Corporation India Pvt Ltd. (UTCIPL) contract engineering services are slated to commence in early 2023 at the same location.
“The launch of these new facilities in Bengaluru illustrates our ongoing commitment in India, amplifying our capabilities and fast-tracking transformative technologies for a safer, more interconnected, and sustainable world,” stated Dr. Mauro Atalla, senior vice president of Engineering & Technology at Collins Aerospace. “The GETC India organization underpins Collins’ six strategic business units and is vital to the sustained success of our global operations.”
Kevin Myers, vice president and chief of Enterprise Operations at Collins Aerospace commented, “The newly established Collins India Operations Center, located at KIADB Aerospace Park, spans 26 acres within the Hitech Defense and Aerospace Park, facilitating operational synergy and economies of scale, while also addressing prospective growth opportunities and client needs. We anticipate hosting approximately 1,700 employees at this new site once it reaches full capacity in 2026.”
Both new Collins facilities have been crafted to the highest standards of sustainable construction; GETC has attained certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) Platinum Rating, featuring solar energy capabilities, zero water discharge systems, and other advanced elements. The Collins India Operations Center adheres to Industry 4.0 standards, equipped with a Building Management System (BMS) that forms a connected ecosystem to oversee and regulate air, water, temperature, and humidity at critical process points, ensuring product quality and rapid issue resolution. Additionally, the Collins India Operations Center has earned USGBC Silver and IGBC Gold building certifications, affirming its status as an energy-efficient campus that aligns with BEE-India & Global Best Management Practices.
