Embraer’s M200 Vigilante Radar Takes Flight: A Groundbreaking Test with the Brazilian Army

Embraer and the Brazilian Army have triumphantly concluded the inaugural test of the M200 Vigilante radar, which included the installation of the system on the KC-390 aircraft from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). The radar functionality was executed at Júlio Belém Airport, situated in Parintins, during the months of June and July. This initiative was further supported by the Parintins City Hall, Júlio Belém Airport, and Viracopos International Airport.

The site was selected due to the Parintins Folkloric Festival, a celebration that leads to a substantial rise in air traffic in the area. This year, thousands of tourists accessed the city via Júlio Belém Airport, causing over 800 landings and takeoffs within just one week. The M200 Vigilante radar was transported for the first time aboard a KC-390, completing a three-hour trip between Campinas, in São Paulo state, and the city nestled in the Amazon rainforest. The sensor consistently monitored air traffic within a 200 km radius of the airport, collaborating closely with CINDACTA IV flight controllers. CINDACTA IV is the Brazilian Air Force division responsible for tracking flights in the northern region of the nation.

“The Parintins Folkloric Festival provided us with the opportunity to evaluate the M200 Vigilante’s functionality in the demanding Amazon rainforest environment. Embraer’s collaborative efforts with the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force showcased the radar’s adaptability, speed, accuracy, and durability right from its initial operation. We are extremely satisfied with the outcomes. This marks a significant stride towards the effective and future operational deployment by the Armed Forces in Brazil and internationally,” states Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security.
