Italy Welcomes Its Cutting-Edge Eurofighter Typhoon: A New Era in Aerial Defense for Europe

In a significant milestone, the final and most advanced Eurofighter Typhoon for the Italian Air Force was delivered today from Leonardo’s plant in Caselle (Turin). This aircraft will play a crucial role in the ongoing mission to protect the skies of Italy. The handover ceremony featured prominent figures, including Gen. Alberto Rosso, Chief of Staff of the Italian Air Force, and Alessandro Profumo, CEO of Leonardo, alongside Marco Zoff, Managing Director of the Aircraft Division.

Alessandro Profumo emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “Today, we celebrate a path of cooperation that has brought forth extraordinary technological capabilities. This long-term strategic vision has empowered Europe to establish its own security asset, fostering a program that serves as a technological catalyst and a vital driver of development for our continent. The Eurofighter Typhoon will be integral to our future innovation initiatives, ensuring European technological sovereignty in years to come,” he stated.

Gen. Alberto Rosso, during the handover ceremony for the aircraft assigned to the Italian Air Force’s 51st Wing at Istrana Air Base, stated, “The delivery of the final aircraft marks a pivotal achievement in our comprehensive and diverse national and NATO air defense strategy. The Eurofighter Typhoon has proven to be a dependable, flexible, and versatile platform, well-prepared to tackle emerging technological challenges. Its wide range of operational capabilities extends beyond air defense duties to include Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) as well as swing-role attack missions. This capability is the result of effective, long-term collaboration between our national defense industry and the Italian Air Force, enhancing our ability to fulfill our primary mission: protecting our citizens.”
