“GA-EMS Secures Contract to Revolutionize EMALS and AAG Systems for the Upcoming USS Doris Miller Aircraft Carrier”
General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) declared today that it has received a contract modification from the Naval Air Systems Command for the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) for the forthcoming Ford-class aircraft carrier USS Doris Miller (CVN 81). GA-EMS will offer production, fabrication, engineering, program management, logistics assistance, and information assurance to deliver EMALS and AAG shipsets for CVN 81.
“Nationwide, our team members, subcontractors, and suppliers are thrilled to commence work on delivering these essential launch and recovery technologies for the fourth carrier in the Ford-class,” mentioned Scott Forney, president of GA-EMS. “With GA-EMS now contracted to provide EMALS and AAG for the CVN 81, we can maximize efficiency and utilize our distinctive capabilities and resources to fulfill construction and maintenance obligations and ensure fleet readiness for all upcoming Ford-class carriers.”
GA-EMS successfully delivered EMALS and AAG to the lead ship USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) and is contracted with the Navy to address CVN 78 sustainment needs. CVN 78 has achieved blue water certification with a fully operational air wing and conducted sustained operations supported by EMALS and AAG. Alongside this CVN 81 contract, GA-EMS is also contracted to provide EMALS and AAG for the imminent USS John F. Kennedy (CVN 79) and USS Enterprise (CVN 80).
“CVN 79 EMALS and AAG certification is currently in progress, and over 80% of the CVN 80 EMALS and AAG production has been finalized. We are honored to maintain our collaborative partnership with the Navy as each carrier gets ready to serve our nation for many decades ahead,” stated Rolf Ziesing, vice president of GA-EMS Maritime Programs.
