HAL Unveils Ambitious Tejas Jet Production Hub in Egypt
India has proposed to Egypt the establishment of production and fabrication facilities for the Tejas Mk1A light fighter aircraft (LCA), alongside helicopters, informed sources conveyed to Daily News Egypt. This initiative emerges as India aims to capitalize on export prospects in the MENA region.
The sources validated the information reported by Indian media, indicating that a series of significant discussions have occurred with Egypt.
They elaborated that the leader of the Egyptian Air Force is anticipated to visit India in the coming days, during which India will highlight its capabilities in manufacturing and fleet upkeep. Last November, India’s Air Force Commander Marshal VR Chowdhury journeyed to Egypt to attend the Air Force Symposium and Defense Exhibition in Cairo.
Currently, a 57-member delegation from the Indian Air Force is present in Egypt to participate in the Tactical Command Program at the Air Force School in Cairo.
The sources, familiar with the ongoing discussions, disclosed to Daily News Egypt that the Egyptian Air Force requires approximately 70 light combat aircraft, emphasizing local production and technology transfer.
Egypt presently operates a diverse fleet consisting of American, French, and Russian aircraft, and has expressed interest in developing aviation manufacturing facilities.
In addition to presenting the Tejas Mk1A Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) to Egypt, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has introduced its array of homegrown helicopters, including the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) and Light Combat Helicopters (LCH).
As reported by India’s Economic Times website, the Tejas Mk1A Light Aircraft is priced at approximately $42 million per unit, a cost made feasible following the Indian Air Force (IAF) order for 83 Mk1A fighter jets.
Reports have further indicated that India is leading in fulfilling Malaysia’s demand for light combat aircraft, with a comprehensive agreement on the table, covering maintenance and spare parts for Russia’s Su-30 fighter jets.
