Hezbollah Takes Down Israeli Drone Over Southern Lebanon Skies
Hezbollah combatants successfully downed an Israeli “Hermes 450” drone that breached Lebanese airspace in the southern region on Monday, utilizing a surface-to-air missile, as reported by the group.
This incident marks the first occurrence of an Israeli drone being brought down since the onset of Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon on October 8. Earlier this month, Hezbollah asserted that it had “captured” two Israeli “Sky Lark” drones; however, no substantiating evidence or further information regarding the process was disclosed.
Technical Specifications:
- Manufacturer: Elbit Systems
- Weight: 450 kilograms
- Payload: 150 kilograms
- Maximum Speed: 95 knots
- Maximum Altitude: 5,500 meters
This UAV is distinguished by its configuration featuring a singular elongated wing and a heightened tail, crafted from lightweight materials that enhance its operational efficiency and allow for unrestricted flight. It functions within a sophisticated encrypted electronic framework that complicates any attempts to breach its systems during operation.
This remotely piloted aircraft is outfitted with both electrical and optical instrumentation for standard visibility, alongside infrared and local radar systems that enable it to capture imagery during nighttime and adverse weather situations. The aircraft relays the visuals and data it gathers to a ground control station in real-time, intercepting various forms of wireless communications and transmitting them to the Israeli National Security Agency (SIGINT) headquarters.
It possesses the capability to transport various types of missiles and bombs, designed for deployment in two methods: “vertical drop and semi-guided launch,” although these munitions are restricted by specific weight limits.
