KONGSBERG and Patria Forge Strategic Alliance for Advanced Missile Solutions
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and Patria Join Forces on Missile Systems
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KONGSBERG) has formally engaged with Patria to explore collaborative opportunities within the realm of Missile Systems. This significant partnership outlines the establishment of a Missile Competence Center in Finland, alongside the development of Open Tactical Framework (OTF) core technologies and system architecture software, aimed at enhancing missile programs both domestically and internationally.
The newly formed Missile Competence Center will specialize in advanced missile system technology, ensuring effective local security provisions for the Finnish Defence Forces while bolstering industrial missile development activities, supported by KONGSBERG’s extensive global customer base.
Building on a solid foundation of cooperation, KONGSBERG and Patria have previously collaborated successfully on the NASAMS air defense system and Remote Weapon Stations. This latest agreement signifies a deeper commitment, positioning the two firms to seek new avenues in Missile Systems and Coastal Defence Systems while fostering a sustainable partnership for both Finnish and global markets.
In March 2016, KONGSBERG became a notable shareholder, acquiring 49.9 percent of Patria Oyj, thereby forming a formidable Nordic defence entity. Patria also holds a 50% stake in NAMMO, enabling a complementary product offering among KONGSBERG, Patria, and Nammo, all while enhancing strategic geographic positions. The Norwegian and Finnish governments respectively maintain majority stakes in KONGSBERG and Patria, adding strength to this alliance.
This strategic ownership configuration, coupled with Patria’s regional expertise and KONGSBERG’s global alliances, significantly amplifies their capabilities in a rapidly expanding global defence market. Together, the alliance boasts more than 12,000 employees and achieves an impressive turnover exceeding 23 billion NOK, or 2.5 billion Euros.
“I take great pride in formalizing this agreement with Patria on behalf of KONGSBERG. We envision exciting opportunities ahead and are eager to share technology and expertise, embarking on a long-term partnership,” states Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS.
“This agreement marks the beginning of a prolonged collaboration in Missile Systems between Patria and KONGSBERG. Our ambitions are high. By combining our industrial strengths, we aim to bolster the defence capabilities of both nations and promote economic growth in our regions,” adds Olli Isotalo, President and CEO of Patria.
