Leonardo Unveils New Helicopter Contracts at AMTC
At the Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) in Fort Worth, Texas, Leonardo announced that Travis County has officially signed a contract for three AgustaWestland AW169 helicopters. This acquisition is part of the county’s STAR Flight program, aimed at modernizing its helicopter fleet with advanced and capable aircraft.
Travis County is set to be the launch customer for the EMS-configured AW169 in the United States, with initial deliveries anticipated to start in October 2018.
Besides medical emergency services, the AW169 helicopters will play a crucial role in search and rescue operations, law enforcement assistance, and firefighting efforts around the Austin, Texas area. With these three AW169s, STAR Flight will significantly enhance its operational capabilities, enabling longer patient transports and improving responsiveness to wildfires.
The AW169s will feature a versatile interior equipped with specialized EMS gear and stretchers, easily reconfigurable for search and rescue operations or firefighting missions. Additionally, these helicopters will come with a hoist and a 300-gallon Simplex belly tank, providing essential resources for various emergency situations.
This contract not only highlights the growing success of the AW169 globally but also underscores its versatility in fulfilling diverse missions. Since its introduction, the AW169 has secured over 160 agreements, including orders and options, from nearly 70 clients across around 30 countries worldwide, solidifying its position in the market.
