The strategic partnership between Italy and Azerbaijan has been solidified with the signing of a contract for the procurement of the C-27J Spartan. An Azerbaijani delegation visited Italy for the contract signing, attended by representatives from the Defence Ministries of both nations.
Initially focused on energy sectors, the alliance between Italy and Azerbaijan now also encompasses defence industry products, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Italian Ministry of Defence working group. The program for acquiring the C-27J from Leonardo, a tactical transport aircraft with a long history of demonstrated performance in demanding operational settings, was concluded through a technical roundtable between the Italian Ministry of Defence and its Azerbaijani counterpart. This agreement is an integral part of Azerbaijan’s comprehensive modernisation initiative of its Armed Forces, which are increasingly inclined towards products from the Italian industry.
Operating in the most challenging geographical, environmental, and operational conditions, Leonardo’s C-27J Spartan is designed to perform a wide array of defence and civil protection missions. The extensive experience accrued from operations with various air forces around the globe makes it the perfect aircraft for military transport duties, airdrops of troops and cargo, ‘last mile’ tactical troop support, special operations, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief efforts.
