Leonardo Enhances Brazil’s Safety: Six AW119Kx Helicopters for Federal Highway Patrol Rescue Missions

Leonardo Unveils AW119Kx Helicopters for Brazil’s Polícia Rodoviária Federal

Leonardo has officially announced that Brazil’s Polícia Rodoviária Federal (PRF) will integrate six state-of-the-art AW119Kx single-engine helicopters into their operations. The inaugural aircraft is anticipated to commence service in Brazil early next year, with the complete delivery of the fleet projected for mid-2021. The AW119Kx helicopters will be deployed by the Air Operations Division (DOA) across Brazil’s five regions, executing vital missions such as transport, rescue, emergency medical services, firefighting, surveillance, and law enforcement.

The PRF’s selection of the AW119Kx follows a thorough evaluation of its technical capabilities, ensuring it meets the specific requirements of this law enforcement agency. This acquisition will significantly bolster the existing fleet of Leonardo helicopters utilized by law enforcement, rescue, and public service entities throughout Brazil, which already encompasses the AW119 single-engine model as well as the more advanced AW109 light twin and AW139 intermediate twin versions. The AW119Kx will be equipped with an array of advanced features, including a Garmin G1000NXi glass cockpit, an infrared-capable electro-optics system, a rescue hoist, a cargo hook, bambi bucket for firefighting, rappelling kits for special operations, and sophisticated communication systems.

Currently, over 190 Leonardo helicopters of various models operate in Brazil, serving multiple functions such as corporate/private transport, law enforcement, public service, offshore transport, and naval applications. As the popularity of Leonardo’s products continues to grow, the company is dedicated to enhancing its localized support services. A new regional support center, managed by Leonardo do Brasil, is under construction in Itapevi, just 30 km from São Paulo. This facility, celebrated with a groundbreaking ceremony in February, will expand upon the services offered at the current headquarters in São Paulo.

Leonardo is wholeheartedly committed to safeguarding and serving communities globally while fostering sustainable development through cutting-edge technologies. Collaborating with governments, private sectors, and industries to deliver top-tier security and safety solutions is fundamental to Leonardo’s Be Tomorrow 2030 Strategic Plan.
