Forging New Frontiers: Makeen and Rolls-Royce Power Systems Collaborate on mtu Engine Production in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Engines Manufacturing Company (Makeen), a collaborative effort among Aramco, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Dussur, has finalized a Framework License Agreement with Rolls-Royce’s Power Systems division to produce, evaluate, market, and maintain mtu engines and gensets within Saudi Arabia.

This agreement signifies a significant achievement for the industrial advancement of the Kingdom’s swiftly expanding marine and off-grid power production sectors, as stated in a release on Monday from Aramco.

Makeen’s Chairman, Mohammad Al-Shammary, remarked: “This alliance is designed to have a positive impact on the local economy, generating job opportunities, enhancing technological expertise, reducing heavy dependence on imports, promoting eco-friendly practices, and fostering new avenues for local supply chain growth. This strategic partnership further aligns with our contributions toward the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.”

The President of Mobile and Sustainable Power Solutions at Rolls Royce Power Systems, Andreas Goertz, expressed: “With the investment commitments of our new partner Makeen in localization for both engine and genset production and maintenance, we anticipate significant opportunities to expand our operations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

“Having a partner in Saudi Arabia is critically important for us in ensuring the supply of our mtu products to the domestic marine sector while upholding our stringent quality standards and offering exceptional services to our clients,” he further noted.

Makeen CEO Abdullah Al-Ghamdi highlighted that the collaboration with Rolls-Royce “aims to provide cutting-edge solutions to cater to the evolving requirements of our esteemed clients in oil and gas, marine, and other sectors, while advancing new technologies. We are in the process of establishing our facilities and training our workforce to meet the high-quality benchmarks set by Makeen.”
