Italian Navy Welcomes Cutting-Edge Teseo Mk2/E Anti-Ship System from MBDA
The Teseo Mk2/E will adeptly target both maritime and terrestrial objectives at extended ranges while maintaining comprehensive mission control throughout its flight. The system will feature an innovative integrated mission planning facility and a new RF seeker, with potential for added functionalities in the future.
This missile system addresses evolving threats, necessitating the advancement of operational requirements. It is the culmination of extensive technical and programmatic collaboration between MBDA and the Italian Navy over the past three years, culminating in the refinement of this cutting-edge solution.
The Teseo Mk2/E missile system is destined to equip the next-generation destroyer (DDX) and is expected to supplant the earlier Mk2/A version on FREMM and Horizon-class frigates. Moreover, the newly produced multi-role Offshore Patrol Vessels (PPA – Pattugliatori Polivalenti d’Altura) are already designed for future Teseo Mk2/E installations. In the anti-ship missile sector, Teseo Mk2/E will set a new benchmark for exceptional performance, adaptable to meet international specifications.
Eric Béranger, CEO of MBDA, expressed gratitude to the Italian Navy, government officials, and MBDA teams for their relentless efforts, even amidst pandemic disruptions, to realize this significant contract. He emphasized that MBDA Group considers Teseo Mk2/E a pivotal program and is dedicated to ensuring the successful development of this innovative weapon system. The new Teseo Mk2/E leverages a product line well-established on a global scale, ensuring the ongoing appeal of our naval offerings in export markets.
Lorenzo Mariani, Executive Group Director of Sales and Business Development and Managing Director of MBDA Italia, stated: “The Teseo Mk2/E has been meticulously conceptualized and crafted through robust collaboration between the Italian Navy and MBDA. This new anti-ship missile will represent a significant evolution in the OTOMAT/Teseo lineup, meeting the demands of continuously emerging threats while incorporating advanced capabilities to bolster Italian Navy operations.
