BAE Secures $72.5M Contract for Groundbreaking Precision Munitions with US Army
The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center (DEVCOM AC) has granted BAE Systems a three-year agreement to continue its research and innovation initiatives in the enhancement of precision-guided munitions (PGM) to bolster the Army’s modernization of long-range precision fire capabilities.
“We have made significant investments to innovate and create a highly agile long-range fire system that will assist Soldiers in combat by delivering lethality against critical targets,” stated Brent Butcher, vice president and general manager of Weapon Systems at BAE Systems. “We anticipate collaborating with DEVCOM AC to further enhance precision-guided munitions and identify the optimal long-range precision fire solution for the U.S. Army.”
For nearly ten years, BAE Systems has committed resources to the evolution of ultra-long-range and hypervelocity munitions. Under this agreement, BAE Systems will collaborate with DEVCOM AC to further refine the capabilities of precision cannon munitions to engage both stationary and moving targets in GPS-degraded or denied scenarios at twice the range of current cannon-launched PGMs.
In 2021, BAE Systems was awarded a $16 million contract to advance and validate the lethality of PGMs against long-distance land-based targets.
