Northrop Secures Contract for Enhanced Joint STARS Capabilities
Northrop Grumman has been awarded a contract by the US Air Force to enhance the ongoing support of the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System.
The US Air Force has granted a $325 million agreement to Northrop Grumman as part of the Total System Support Responsibility (TSSR) initiative for the E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS).
The Joint STARS TSSR program aims to deliver program management, engineering technical assistance, aircrew and maintenance instruction, supply chain and spare parts management, technical data and publications, program depot maintenance, along with comprehensive customer support.
“We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing vital services for Joint STARS that only Northrop Grumman can offer to our military personnel,” stated Janice Zilch, Northrop Grumman’s Vice President of Manned Airborne Surveillance Programs.
“The overarching modification and sustainment efforts will guarantee ongoing safety and operational readiness of the E-8C fleet in response to changing threat scenarios.”
Northrop is anticipated to carry out its sustainment tasks for the 116th and 461st Air Control Wings of the Air Force’s E-8C Joint STARS fleet from Robins Air Force Base in Georgia and various forward operating sites abroad.
Joint STARS are designed to provide real-time battlefield management situational awareness and extensive area searches.
The system integrates high-fidelity wide-area moving target detection, synthetic aperture radar imagery, and robust battle management systems to identify, classify, and track surface targets under all weather conditions from extended ranges.
