Revamping Naval Defense: UK’s Aster 30 B1 Contract Enhancement

The OCCAR-EA Director, representing the UK Ministry of Defence, formalized Amendment 10 of the Sustainment & Enhancement (S&E) agreement with the Managing Director of the Eurosam consortium (Mrs. Eva Bruxmeier).

This contract amendment marks the UK’s integration into the multi-National alliance involving France and Italy for the production of the Aster Block 1 missiles, with a fresh contract overseen by MBDA through Eurosam.

The agreement will manage, within the scope of the Aster missiles Mid Life Update (MLU) for the UK, the transformation of Aster 30 warheads to the Aster 30 B1 Naval UK specification: including autopilot software innovation and logistical enhancements, while the munitions assembly will occur within UK facilities, specifically at Defence Munition Gosport (DMG).

The strong collaboration among OCCAR, the UK MoD, and DE&S, along with significant contributions from DGA (FR) and SEGREDIFESA (IT), played a pivotal role in reaching this crucial milestone following an extensive and intricate negotiation phase with the industry.

While representatives from the Participating States were unable to attend the ceremony in person, they conveyed their immense satisfaction regarding the realization of this long-anticipated success.

This initiative further solidifies the enduring partnership and strategic collaboration between France, Italy, and the UK in the munitions sector, setting the stage for forthcoming Tri-National achievements and partnership prospects.
