Qatar Celebrates Arrival of Its Inaugural Eurofighter Typhoon in the UK Ceremony
On Monday, 15 August 2022, the first Typhoon aircraft was handed over to the Qatar Armed Forces during a roll-out event presided over by Cliff Robson, Managing Director Air of BAE Systems Group.
The occasion took place at BAE Systems’ site in Warton, United Kingdom, under the esteemed patronage of His Excellency Dr. Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah, Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, alongside Commander of the Qatar Emiri Air Force (QEAF), Major General Jassim Mohammed Ahmed Al Mannai.
The initial Typhoon has arrived on schedule and is set to journey from the UK to Qatar later this month, where it will render essential support for the FIFA World Cup scheduled to occur in the State from 21 November.

Speaking on behalf of BAE Systems, Tony Gilchrist, Director of Business Development, remarked:
“Today signifies an important milestone in our alliance with the Qatar Armed Forces and illustrates our dedication and assistance as they gear up to host the FIFA World Cup.
“We are collaborating with the QEAF to ensure the effective transfer of expertise and skills necessary to support, maintain, and upgrade both their Typhoon and Hawk aircraft.”
Defence Secretary Ben Wallace stated, “The delivery of today’s Typhoon marks another thrilling milestone for our UK-Qatar partnership, which will enhance the exchange of training and expertise between our air forces, ensuring both nations remain at the forefront of defence capabilities. This collaborative initiative highlights the value Britain places on its partnerships in the Middle East.”
The ceremony signifies a substantial advancement in the program following a contract for the procurement of several Typhoons and Hawk advanced jet trainers, along with a six-year availability support service, finalized between the Government of Qatar and BAE Systems in December 2017.
Furthermore, a Memorandum of Understanding was established between the Governments of Qatar and the UK for the provision of support that includes the formation of joint UK-Qatar Typhoon and Hawk squadrons aimed at delivering RAF pilot and technician training.
