
Raytheon Secures $125 Million for Advanced AMRAAM Upgrade Initiative
Raytheon Missiles Systems has secured a vital contract with the U.S. Air Force to implement essential software upgrades for the Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) inventory.
On September 9, 2020, the Department of Defense revealed the contract details in its daily contracting notice. This substantial engagement grants Raytheon a maximum of $125 million for the AMRAAM system improvement program.
According to the announcement, “Software development activities are set to utilize a recognized agile framework that fosters government and Prime collaboration through iterative processes of study, development, integration, testing, and capability demonstration.”
The project will take place in Tucson, Arizona, with an anticipated completion date of September 30, 2026.
As stated on Raytheon’s website, the AIM-120 AMRAAM stands as the most advanced and combat-tested air dominance weapon globally. It has successfully showcased its capabilities in over 4,800 test flights and achieved more than 10 air-to-air combat victories.
The AMRAAM is operational not only with the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy but also with more than 25 allied nations, underscoring its global significance.
In related news, the Pentagon recently updated Congress regarding plans to sell the AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM to Japan and AIM-120C-7/8 missiles to Spain.
