Raytheon Secures $560 Million Contract for F-35 Engine Components
Raytheon Co., a leading player in the defense sector, has secured a significant $579.8 million contract for F-35 engine spare parts and support services.
This contract, awarded by Naval Air Systems Command and announced recently, focuses on providing both unit and depot-level spare parts for the F135 propulsion system. It includes spare engines and modules to fulfill initial spares requirements for the F-35, serving the Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, non-Department of Defense participants, and Foreign Military Sales customers.
Operations related to this contract will take place in East Hartford, Connecticut (93%), Indianapolis, Indiana (6%), and Bristol, United Kingdom (1%). Completion of the project is anticipated by December 2024.
The F135 engine is recognized as the most advanced fighter engine globally, delivering over 40,000 lbs. of thrust while showcasing unparalleled advancements in safety, design, performance, and reliability. This engine has evolved from the successful F119 engine, which powers the U.S. Air Force’s F-22 Raptor, ensuring exceptional single-engine reliability, fifth-generation stealth features, and cutting-edge prognostics and health management systems.
Pratt & Whitney’s F135 propulsion system is integral to all three variants of the F-35 Lightning II fighter aircraft: the F-35A CTOL (Conventional Takeoff and Landing), F-35B STOVL (Short Takeoff and Vertical Landing), and F-35C CV (Carrier Variant).
