Collins Aerospace by Raytheon Technologies Chosen for Key EU Air Traffic Management Initiatives
Raytheon Technologies’ Collins Aerospace division has been chosen to engage in eight initiatives under the European Union’s SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking (SESAR 3 JU). This partnership among various European private and public entities seeks to expedite the realization of the Digital European Sky by advancing novel technologies for managing traditional aircraft, drones, air taxis, and high-altitude vehicles.
As a component of this endeavor, Collins will collaborate with the air traffic management ecosystem, including air navigation service providers, airlines, aircraft manufacturers, system vendors, and educational institutions to foster new advancements in crucial technology domains such as connectivity, U-space, trajectory-based operations, airport solutions, autonomy, and data services. Collins will spearhead the JARVIS (Just A Rather Very Intelligent System) project, utilizing artificial intelligence-based solutions to enhance automation in flight deck and control tower functions, thereby alleviating pilot and operator workloads while simultaneously improving safety and security.

“Collins possesses decades of expertise in avionics and air traffic management, which we will apply under the EU’s SESAR 3 JU as we partner with industry players to shape the future of the European sky,” stated Mauro Atalla, senior vice president of Engineering & Technology for Collins. “Collectively, we will create innovative solutions that will lay the groundwork for a future system that is more efficient, safer, and more secure.”
Below is a comprehensive list of the SESAR research projects that Collins has been selected to join. Collins’ Applied Research and Technology (ART) division will collaborate closely with the company’s Avionics and Connected Aviation Solutions strategic business units to support the initiatives from Collins’ locations across France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and the UK.
