Greek Forces Enhance Tactical Drone Capabilities with Safran’s Patroller via NSPA Partnership
The Hellenic Army has selected Safran Electronics & Defense to enhance the military’s drone capabilities, with four new Patroller tactical drones set to be incorporated alongside the existing Sperwer drones. The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) has been designated by its Greek client to initiate discussions with Safran.
The Patroller capitalizes on over three decades of technological advancements by Safran Electronics & Defense in the realm of tactical drone systems, focusing on navigation technologies, onboard electronics, and optronics. Drawing from this profound expertise, Safran engineers cutting-edge solutions in France for mission planning and execution, flight control, navigation, sensors, communication links, and integration within C4ISR* infrastructures.
The Patroller is equipped with a range of sensors tailored for intelligence operations on behalf of armed forces and homeland defense entities. With an array of pioneering technologies, the Patroller benefits from the knowledge gained by Safran Electronics & Defense through the Sperwer tactical drone system, while also integrating insights from nine years of consistent deployment in Afghanistan.

In February 2023, the Patroller became the inaugural tactical drone system to receive official certification under NATO airworthiness standard STANAG 4671, which applies to fixed-wing drones exceeding 150 kilograms. This certification is a crucial prerequisite for defense and homeland security operations.
This recent choice, following the deployment of the Sperwer currently in use, along with the addition of the Patroller to NATO’s offerings, reinforces Safran Electronics & Defense’s position as a leader in Europe for tactical drones. The Patroller provides unparalleled adaptability, catering to support for land forces as well as maritime and border surveillance, allowing it to undertake a diverse array of reconnaissance missions.
