Lockheed Martin Lands Cutting-Edge F-16 Training Software Contract in South Korea
ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 16, 2025 – Lockheed Martin has announced an upgrade to the Republic of Korea Air Force’s F-16 Block 52 flight simulation systems to incorporate the advanced capabilities of its enhanced F-16 Viper (F-16V) aircraft. These upgrades signify a heightened operational capacity for the Republic of Korea Air Force, providing high-fidelity simulated environments for pilots to train as they would in actual flights.
“Top-notch precision and realism in ground-based flight training are vital for pilot safety and operational preparedness,” remarked Todd Morar, vice president of Air and Commercial Solutions at Lockheed Martin. “As the creator of all F-16 variants, Lockheed Martin employs the design and software data from the real aircraft to deliver ground-based training experiences that closely mimic actual flight scenarios, ensuring compatibility with the aircraft as technology evolves.”
As per the arrangement, Lockheed Martin will provide new devices and systems integration to transform nine F-16 flight simulators at Seosan and Chungju Air Bases to the F-16V configuration, along with continued support for contractor logistics services over a period of six years.
Since 2001, aviators from 16 partner nations have trained using Lockheed Martin’s F-16 training systems. Lockheed Martin training facilities deliver a simulation-based training atmosphere that replicates all systems, sensors, and munitions for a comprehensive training solution. These systems can be interconnected, enabling pilots to experience varied scenarios, coordinating technologies to provide advanced training while meeting budgetary constraints.
The F-16V configuration features state-of-the-art avionics, a reliable Active Electronically Scanned Array radar, an upgraded cockpit, advanced munitions, and other enhancements that align them with the latest F-16 Block 70 aircraft.
