RUAG Receives Bangladesh Navy’s Dornier 228 for a Comprehensive 72-Month Overhaul
RUAG MRO International Supports Bangladesh Navy with Dornier 228-212 Aircraft
RUAG MRO International, the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the Dornier 228, is excited to announce the arrival of the first of two Dornier 228-212 special mission aircraft for the Bangladesh Navy (BN) for its essential 72-month inspection. The maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) contract was formalized on April 3, 2019, at the Directorate General of Purchase (DGDP) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
This inaugural aircraft journeyed from its home base, piloted by RUAG’s technical experts alongside BN maintenance technicians, reaching the OEM’s production facility in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, on May 26, 2019.
The collaboration between RUAG MRO International and the Bangladesh Navy guarantees specialized maintenance and support for the two Dornier 228-212 aircraft, which are pivotal for various operations. As stipulated in the contract, RUAG will utilize the 72-month MRO inspections to provide critical training for BN maintenance technicians, enhancing their operational expertise. The contract signing was witnessed by Commodore Zahir, Director of Purchase for the Bangladesh Navy, and Michael Franz, Director of Customer Support for the Dornier 228 at RUAG MRO International.
The Bangladesh Navy relies heavily on their Dornier 228s for surveillance and patrol missions vital to maritime security, exclusive economic zone management, and search and rescue (SAR) operations. Commodore Zahir stated, “Our efforts in naval and coast guard surveillance play a significant role in ensuring our nation’s security and economic stability. Given our demanding mission schedules and flight plans, we need guaranteed aircraft availability around the clock. Trusting RUAG with these extensive inspections is crucial for maintaining the reliability and performance we expect from our fleet.”
