Russia and India Settle on Ka-226T Design Blueprint

Approval of Ka-226T Helicopter Configuration by India

India has endorsed the technical configuration of the light utility Ka-226T helicopter. This advanced helicopter, developed by the Russian Helicopters Holding Company, will be assembled locally by the Joint Venture Indo-Russian Helicopters Limited in India.

The initiative involves the delivery of 200 Ka-226T helicopters and the establishment of serial production within India, based on an intergovernmental agreement signed in 2016.

In May 2017, the joint venture was officially registered in India, focusing on helicopter assembly and the gradual localization of production. Recently, the Indian Ministry of Defense has approved the payment of the venture’s charter capital. The designated production site will be located near Tumkur, close to Bangalore.

“With the helicopter configuration approved for delivery and assembly in India, the technical details are finalized. Our collaboration with Indian partners will soon lead to the preparation of contractual documents,” stated Andrey Boginskiy, Director General of the Russian Helicopters Holding Company.

The Ka-226T helicopter is equipped with a coaxial main rotor system and has a maximum take-off weight of 3.6 tons, enabling it to transport up to 1 ton of payload. It can feature a transport cabin that accommodates up to six individuals or modules outfitted with specialized equipment. Its superior flight performance, eco-friendliness, cost-effectiveness, state-of-the-art avionics, and enhanced safety features position the Ka-226T among the top choices in its category.
