Bahrain Enhances Air Traffic Control with FREQUENTIS Tech Upgrade
|
Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ (MTT) Civil Aviation Affairs (CAA) has awarded Frequentis the contract to modernize the voice communication infrastructure at Bahrain International Airport. The Area Control Centre (ACC) and the airport towers will be upgraded with the new Frequentis VCS3020X, replacing the previous Frequentis system that has been operational for over 15 years.
Bahrain International Airport, the oldest airport in the Gulf and the nation’s primary gateway, handles more than 100,000 flight movements annually, accommodating over eight million passengers. The airport is currently in the midst of an expansion that aims to boost its capacity to 14 million, with a new passenger terminal expected to open in 2020. Covering airspace from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Kuwait, the CAA manages over 600,000 overflights each year. The anticipated growth in air traffic emphasizes the need for BCAA to deploy a reliable, high-performing, and future-ready ATC communication system. Frequentis boasts a longstanding presence in Bahrain, having successfully completed similar projects with the CAA and various voice communication and recording systems for other Bahraini agencies. The new solution, scheduled for deployment in early 2020, will be set up for 34 positions, supporting operations at the ACC, simulation room, main tower, and emergency tower. “Frequentis is honored to provide Bahrain MTT CAA with cutting-edge voice communication technology. We appreciate the trust CAA has placed in us for their system modernization and we eagerly anticipate furthering our successful long-term collaboration,” stated Hannu Juurakko, Vice President of ATM Civil at Frequentis. As a proven, compact, and fully redundant end-to-end IP VCS, the VCS3020X system allows for flexible integration with existing analogue and digital radio systems. The CAA will effectively manage communications with minimal air-ground delays while ensuring superior voice quality. This fully redundant solution also features numerous interfaces for external systems and is prepared for future IP radio and telephone connectivity, adhering to the ED-137B EUROCAE (European Organisation for Civil Aviation Equipment) standard. The VCS3020X represents the premier end-to-end IP communication solution for Air Traffic Management on a global scale. Its robust architecture offers exceptional scalability and functionality, along with extensive workload sharing and networking capabilities, making it essential for the effective implementation of dynamic sectorization and virtual air traffic control. The VCS3020X will deliver the best-performing voice communication solution for air traffic control, ensuring rapid deployment and the lowest overall ownership cost. |
