Raytheon Unveils Cutting-Edge Ethernet Encryption System with NSA Approval

The National Security Agency has certified on the 27th of July Raytheon Company’s KG-350 Ethernet encryption system designed to safeguard network communications for sensitive information classified up to Top Secret/SCI. This Type 1 certification allows Raytheon to market the innovative KG-350 encryptor to commercial, military, and government clients immediately.

The KG-350 enhances Raytheon’s dominance in the Layer 2 Ethernet encryption sector, delivering reduced latency and superior throughput compared to existing encryption technologies.

“Raytheon’s KG-350 offers the fastest and highest-capacity networking solution for secure communications globally,” stated John Droge, director of Raytheon Secure Information Systems. “Layer 2 encryption optimizes bandwidth – boosting information throughput by up to 45 percent – while enabling seamless real-time data, voice, and video.”

The KG-350 encryptor is designed for rugged tactical vehicle applications and fixed-site deployments, and is the first to meet the NSA’s new Ethernet Security Specification (ESS) standards.

“The benefit of ESS compliance is that ESS encryptors are interoperable, allowing organizations to scale their networking capabilities by adding new encryptors instead of overhauling entire networks,” Droge explained.

To meet diverse current and future networking needs, the KG-350 operates at three speeds — 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, and 10 Gbps. A single KG-350 unit can facilitate uninterrupted communications across much larger networks than earlier technologies in point-to-point, mesh, and point-to-multi-point configurations.

“As data speeds within networks continue to rise, the demand for lower latency networking solutions also increases,” noted Paul Pittelli, NSA Deputy Director of Trusted Engineering Solutions. “Layer 2 encryption addresses this need, enabling network administrators to achieve higher degrees of throughput while effectively maintaining user data security.”

Following the NSA’s certification of its Layer 2 Ethernet encryptors, Raytheon has commenced fulfilling its backlog of product orders. The KG-350 can be acquired through Government IDIQ contracts or through direct orders from Raytheon.
