Triumphant Launch of Cutting-Edge Exocet Missile from French Warship

A triumphant launch, executed by the French navy, of the cutting-edge MBDA’s Exocet missile – Mer-Mer 40 Block 3c (MM40 B3c) – occurred from the versatile Alsace frigate (FREMM DA) off the coastline of the DGA missile testing center (DGA EM) at Ile du Levant on 20 September 2023.

Exocet MM40 B3c represents the latest evolution of MBDA’s Exocet suite of anti-ship missiles, engineered for compatibility with a diverse range of platforms including surface vessels, submarines, supersonic aircraft, helicopters, and coastal defense systems. Earlier models of Exocet are currently operational with various naval forces globally.

The B3c model utilizes the continuous enhancements made to Exocet throughout its deployment. MM40 B3c encompasses all the features for which Exocet is celebrated, particularly its operability in all-weather conditions and significant usability flexibility. Furthermore, this advanced missile takes advantage of innovative seeker technology and the refinement of new algorithms tailored to fulfill the latest operational demands in anti-ship combat scenarios.

MBDA’s Chief Executive Officer Eric Béranger remarked: “I am profoundly proud of the successful operational evaluation launch of the Exocet MM40 B3c, executed from the versatile Alsace frigate. This confirms the enhanced capabilities of the missile’s latest iteration, which is equipped to excel in high-intensity situations. Exocet stands as a true emblem for MBDA, and this achievement further highlights the expertise and technical distinction of MBDA’s workforce. I extend my gratitude to both the DGA and the French navy for facilitating this launch.”

MBDA has persistently advanced Exocet since its inception into service. This ongoing development has allowed the missile to acclimate to new combat conditions while retaining its extraordinary all-weather performance. The Exocet MM40 B3c serves as MBDA’s strategic answer to emerging conflicts characterized by an evolving spectrum of threats, especially in high-intensity operations within intricate electronic warfare landscapes.
