Sweden Expands Its Defense Capabilities with Raytheon’s Patriot Air and Missile Defense System

The Swedish government has finalized an agreement to acquire Raytheon’s (NYSE: RTN) esteemed Patriot™ air and missile defense system from the U.S. Army. This formal agreement, known as a Letter of Offer and Acceptance, sets the stage for Sweden’s Patriot force to swiftly attain Initial Operational Capability.

“Sweden, along with 15 other nations, relies on our proven Patriot system to safeguard its citizens, military forces, and national sovereignty,” stated Wes Kremer, President of Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems. “The integration of Patriot in Sweden will bolster Northern European security and further solidify the Trans-Atlantic partnership, offering a unified strategy for Integrated Air and Missile Defense.”

Patriot serves as a critical component in Europe’s defense architecture against threats such as ballistic and cruise missiles, advanced aircraft, and drones.

European Nations Equipped with Patriot

Countries such as Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, and Spain currently operate the Patriot system. In the last year, Romania and Poland have also signed Letters of Acceptance, marking them as the 5th and 6th European nations to adopt Raytheon’s advanced defense technology.
