Thales Unveils Groundbreaking Drone Solutions for Malaysia’s Maritime Safety Enhancements
Thales Strengthens Malaysia’s Maritime Security with Fulmar UAS
In a significant move to enhance maritime safety, Thales has secured a contract with the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency to provide the advanced Fulmar Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). This innovative, small, fixed-wing UAS will be deployed on six New Generation Patrol Crafts (NGPC) currently being built by Destini Shipbuilding and Engineering Sdn. Bhd.
The Fulmar’s design supports unique operational needs, allowing for take-off and landing even while the ship is in motion—an essential feature for the MMEA. This capability positions Fulmar as a frontrunner in the market, delivering unparalleled advantages over competing systems.
Moreover, the Fulmar UAS will significantly bolster the operational effectiveness of Malaysia’s maritime surveillance fleet, providing a comprehensive array of functionalities including:
- Counter-piracy operations
- Anti-smuggling initiatives
- Fisheries enforcement
- Border surveillance
Equipped with state-of-the-art Automatic Detection and Tracking systems alongside Automatic Identification Systems (AIS), Fulmar promises high-performance surveillance on a versatile platform, ensuring effective monitoring of Malaysia’s waters.
